Metal Blade has released “”Tartessos: The Hidden Xenocryst” as the band’s first single and needless to say, it RIPS! Check it out below! The guys have also posted a behind the scenes video of the recording process, which has even more samples of newer music. This is going to be epic. Prepare yourselves accordingly.

Fear Factory and Shadows Fall to tour + F.F. News

File this one in the “probably going to happen” folder.

Being that I have no life and wandered the internet for hours on end tonight, I found out a little news from the Fear Factory camp. On Dino Cazares’ official twitter page he “tweeted”:

just finished the mixes for the nee FF cd “The Indurtrialist” cd release and tour dates will be announced soon

In all due respect to Dino I’m pretty sure he meant to say “The Industrialist” unless Fear Factory made up a new word, which is possible…so be on the lookout for The Indurtrialist or The Industrialist sometime in the near future from the Fear Factory dudes!

The band also recently announced the addition of former Chimaira guitarist Matt DeVries on bass. The band now consists of Matt on bass, Burton C. Bell on vocals, Gene Hoglan on drums, and of course Dino Cazares on guitar.

So what about these tour dates to be announced soon!?

On their lovely facebook page, Summit Music Hall in Denver posted that Fear Factory will be in town May 20th with Shadows Fall, The Devastated, and The Browning. SCHWEEET! I’m assuming we will have a full tour itinerary within a day or two, but for now, just make room in your bank account for ANOTHER concert.

Machine Head excel in the classroom.

It almost seems like a weekly thing; a random youtube video of Machine Head doing something awesome, and proving they are cooler than any other metal band out there. While everyone praised Dave Grohl for wearing a Slayer shirt under his jacket at the Grammy’s , Machine Head’s Rob Flynn and Adam Duce went to Booker T Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and spoke to a music class for almost an hour. You can watch the video below.

The only people that ever spoke to my high school were there to tell you not to do drugs, not to have sex, and not to drink and drive. Hour-long assemblies that almost made you wish you were actually in class. Hell, Dan and I even took    a guitar class or senior year and learned nothing except how to play “American Pie”. Not only is it cool to see teachers that want to spread knowledge and are fans of metal, but it’s really cool to see the Machine Head guys taking time out of their day to go talk with some kids. What will they do next?

IRON MAIDEN NORTH AMERICAN TOUR THIS SUMMER!!!!!

Yeah. Those big letters means I’m yelling. I’m stoked. Super stoked. Seriously!

Well Iron Maiden are certainly staying busy. After completing The Final Frontier World Tour, the legends will return this summer for a full North American tour. The tour will feature Alice Cooper opening the first half of the tour and Coheed and Cambria opening the second half. In the press release Bruce Dickinson states:

“We have great fun playing the History of Maiden Tours because it gives us an opportunity between new albums to go out and play songs from our earlier catalogue. It’s always fantastic seeing the crowd reaction from a new generation of fans who have never experienced some of these tracks performed live before, and of course we know our longstanding fans will enjoy seeing the original Seventh Son Tourre-visited – with many other surprises! Our intention is to play about two thirds of the original track list of Maiden England (shown below*), including some songs we have not played live in a very, very long time, plus other favourites we just know the fans are going to want to hear! We always try to give our fans a great show musically, but we have always tried to make it as entertaining and memorable an experience as we can visually. And we all feel this show is going to do that splendidly! We can’t wait to get started in Charlotte”.

This is obviously AWESOME. The Final Frontier World Tour was amazing, but  many people had gripes with the set list. It was my first time seeing Maiden so I had no complaints, but it was a bit strange seeing them and NOT hearing “Run to the Hills”, “The Trooper”,  and a lot of the typical songs you’d expect them to play. Sounds like you’ll hear a lot of those this time around so HELL. YES.

Check out the official press release and tour dates at Maiden’s OFFICIAL SITE.

Children of Bodom 15th Anniversary Tour: Live in Denver

On a cold winter night, there’s never a better place to be than a metal show. Luckily there was plenty of entertainment to keep everyone warm at The Gothic Theatre last week. Children of Bodom‘s 15th Anniversary tour packed a strong, diverse lineup including Eluveitie, Revocation, and Threat Signal.

As much as I love the Gothic, their start times are never right. Apparently due to the weather the band’s wanted to start early so they could leave early (according to the security staff), so I heard the last song by Threat Signal and things began  to take shape for Revocation.

I’ve never seen Revocation before, but they have really blown up this last year with their album Chaos of Forms, and the ridiculous playing of guitarist/frontman David Davidson. The band opened with “Harlot” and delivered an aural onslaught that won’t soon be forgotten. If the crowd wasn’t moshing, everyone else’s eyes seemed to be fixated on Davidson. He plays with such passion and a certain flare that just makes it hard to take your eyes off the dude; you can definitely tell he loves what he does. They dedicated “Dismantle the Dictator” to Denver’s very own Havok, before Davidson delivered one of the best rants/speeches I’ve heard from a front man in a long time. In his best viking voice Davidson demanded everyone to “Raise your chalice high!” before playing the instrumental “Across Forests and Fjords”. In his rant of telling you to picture bloody battlefields of your fallen brothers, and your castle covered in blood he also shot out lines like “This song is like Skyrim, only all the dragons have tits!” It was a shame the band only got to play six songs, because they were really fun to watch. Davidson seems to get all the attention, but every one of those guys can really play!

Switzerland’s very own Eluveitie were up next. After seeing them headline almost a year ago, it was good to see them again. With eight members up on that stage, they are a really fun band to watch. Opening with “Everything Remains (As It Never Was)” the band played “Nil”, “Kingdom Come Undone”, “Tarvos”, and two new songs, “Havok” and “Meet the Enemy”. Not many bands combine there sheer amount of instruments they can all play and make them sound so good! They closed with “Quoth the Raven” and “Inis Mona”, another awesome performance from the Swiss folk-metallers!

I didn’t really get into Children of Bodom til 2003-2004, so it’s crazy to think they have been around for 15 years! The band opened with “Sixpounder” and tore through a set featuring songs mostly off their last three albums. When the majority of their older tracks in the set came in the medley form with “Children of Bodom”/”Deadnight Warrior”/”Hate Me”. Overall it would have been cool to hear more variety from the guys considering it’s an “anniversary” tour, but the set list was still decent. The drums and bass were way too heavy in the mix, so Alexi and Roopes solo’s were very hard to hear which was frustrating. Overall the showmanship was still there and the guys still managed to put on a good show. This lineup was awesome, definitely worth checking out of you get the chance!

Superskum posted two other videos of Eluveitie’s set as well as an interview. They also have dozens of other quality metal performances on their channel. Go check them out!

Apparently, Taproot recruited Luigi to be their drummer.

I listened to one Taproot album. That one that had this song on it. Apparently, the band has a new album coming out (!) and have been together for 15 years (!?). So, this short, mostly worthless promo video is pretty much just about how everyone but the drummer fights and has lots of memories that don’t mesh well together. However, I think the bigger surprise is that Taproot have Luigi as their drummer. Seriously, you get a guy with a perfectly tailored ‘stash and a green hat to sit there and talk, and you’re going to tell me that’s not Mario’s broski Luigi?! He looks just like him (if maybe a little chunkier)! For shame, Taproot! For, shame.

thePrp, claimed the ‘stash is of the Selleck variety, but I think we all know the truth. Anywho… waste 1:30 of your day below.

Demon Hunter release info on new album.

When I think about that explosion of metalcore/NWOAHM thing that happened between 2002-2005 (roughly), Demon Hunter often get swept under the rug. It’s not because I haven’t enjoyed the band, quite the contrary. With the exception of 2010′s The World is A Thorn, I own every Demon Hunter release, and a shirt and hoodie (which I wore down to its stiches). Part of it is my love for pre-DH outfit Training for Utopia, and part of it is because the band just write solid songs and seemed to get consistently better. I’ll admit though, the last two albums have felt kind of lackluster (and I was emphatically not a fan of TWIAT). I kind of felt like, maybe, the band ran out of steam.

So, with the announcement by frontman and sole remaining original member Ryan Clark that the new album, titled True Defiance, will be “our most aggressive” I get kind of excited. I know Demon Hunter like to have the sing song-y parts of their music, but they’ve always been best when they are at their most aggressive. Plus, if this is really a reaction against the “false” metal that has permeated the scene in the past five years (I’m reading deathcore in big, bold letters here), then I think this could be a great album. I don’t have much more to say, really, except that the album is slated for release on April 10th, via Solid State. You can check out the track listing below, which I am ganking from thePrp (which is also where the quotes from Ryan came from).

True Defiance track listing;

01 – “Crucifix
02 – “God Forsaken
03 – “My Destiny
04 – “Wake
05 – “Tomorrow Never Comes
06 – “Someone To Hate
07 – “This I Know
08 – “Means To An End
09 – “We Don’t Care
10 – “Resistance
11 – “Dead Flowers

Jesse Leach Returns to Killswitch Engage!

It has been the dream of many people for nearly a decade, and with one glorious picture on Killswitch Engage‘s official website, dreams really can come true!

They look so happy! While no official official word has been given, you can safely assume by the pic that former Killswitch vocalist Jesse Leach has returned to the band. Great news!!! It was awesome watching videos of him and the few performances he did with the band in the last year or two, and with the whole Times of Grace project, there was a lot of speculation after Howard Jones left that he may return. In my mind that is the best choice the band could make. No Philswitch, no random dude trying to fit in with a group of guys who’ve been together for over a decade, but bringing back the guy who helped put them on the map. The band has already been writing for the new album, hopefully Jesse will get to put his spin on it and we can hear some new Killswitch in the near future!

More Tours, More Tours, and MORE TOURS!

I can’t keep up!!! This is insane!!! I figure if I posted all the info for most of the tours, I better post the rest of them, plus a few more have released dates and what not today so let’s do this again.

All Shall Perish have announced a headlining tour featuring support from Carnifex, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Conducting From the Grave, and The Contortionist. Look at the dates HERE.

In addition to a tribute concert for Cory Smoot, GWAR have announced a full tour with support from Municipal Waste and Ghoul. How fun does that sound!?! Not to mention the last date of the tour is right here in Fort Collins!!!! Get info and date HERE.

Dave Mustaine’s brainchild GIGANTOUR has returned and just began this past week. The tour includes Megadeth (duh), Motorhead, Lacuna Coil, and Volbeat. You can buy tickets and check out the dates HERE. If you dish out $250 you can get a “VIP” ticket, including early entry, a photo band members, and other perks. If you have that much money, well, have fun! For us poor folk, just being able to see Megadeth and Motorhead on the same bill would be worth the price of admission!

Finally, this year the U.S. welcomes back Paganfest. The tour took a few years off from the states and will return this year with Turisas as the headliner. Support will come from Alestorm, Ex Deo, Arkona, and Huntress. I’m still kicking myself for missing out a few years ago, so this will definitely be a high priority for myself. Dan and I literally ran to The Gothic in order to watch Turisas play their final 3 or so songs from their set about a year ago, and they were awesome. Check for dates within the next day or two!

Anyone wanna help some broke ass metalheads out!?

-Chris

Tours, Tours, and More Tours!

From the fan’s standpoint, there is one good thing about the shitty state of the music industry; bands basically HAVE to tour. While there are always a plethora of  winter and spring tours in the U.S. this year seems particularly busy. Check out some dates and hit up some shows, buy a CD, a shirt, anything, and support these guys!

One of the bigger tours, the Metal Alliance Tour, will feature Devildriver, The Faceless, Dying Fetus, Job For a Cowboy, 3 Inches of Blood, Impending Doom, Wretched. If you haven’t seen Devildriver then I’m not sure what you’ve done wrong because they never stop touring and seem to be on like every other metal tour that gets announced. The Faceless and J.F.A.C. always put on a great show, but I have yet to see Impending Doom or Wretched live yet. Last time I saw Dying Fetus they absolutely SLAYED, and the last two times I’ve seen 3 Inches of Blood they made me think my ears were bleeding. Needless to say…it was awesome. Check out dates HERE.

Iced Earth have announced co-headlining dates with Symphony X and Warbringer, get dates and info HERE. I haven’t had a chance to see any of these bands live, but I’m sure it’s awesome. In writing this, it reminded me of Iced Earth’s terribly awesome music video, so why not?! Here ya go!

East of the Wall and Black Tusk have announced a mini-tour featuring Intronaut, Hull, and Royal Thunder on various dates. Fresh of their ridiculously awesome album The Apologist, East of the Wall would be awesome to see, throw Intronaut in a couple of shows and damn! That’s a lineup! Too bad these are the only dates!

3/10 Detroit, MI – I Rock (feat. Royal Thunder, Hull)
3/12 St. Louis, MO – Fubar (feat. Royal Thunder, Hull)
3/13 Fayetteville, AR – Stone Pony (feat. Royal Thunder, Hull)
3/16 Scottsdale, AZ – Chaser’s (feat. Intronaut)
3/18 Tucson, AZ – The Rock (feat. Intronaut)
3/19 Los Angeles, CA – The Whisky A Go-Go

Lastly (for now) the dudes over at Metalsucks are sponsoring two strings of shows with the likes of The Faceless, Dying Fetus, Job for a Cowboy, Goatwhore, Volumes, and Last Chance to Reason. Those dudes have their shit together! Get all that info for them HERE.

The lineup for The Decibel Magazine Tour was announced last week, but hey dates have been announced! Support on the tour will come from Watain, The Devil’s Blood and In Solitude………….dark!

The tour is offering special ticket packages as well as offering every general admission ticket a commemorative laminate as well as lower service fees. Check out tour dates and buy tickets HERE! Let the tours keep coming!!!

Mastodon release video for “Dry Bone Valley”

Boing Boing Video have premiered the music video for Mastodon’s “Dry Bone Valley” which can be viewed below. The video was produced and animated by Tim Biskup. This was the track the band opened with on their recent headlining trek in support of The Hunter, and is probably enjoyed best with your favorite recreational drug.

The rumors of a Mastodon, Opeth, and Ghost  tour appear to be true as Mastodon’s Troy Sanders confirmed it on a radio interview last week. No dates have been announced but HOLY HELL! What a line-up! We will definitely let you know when those dates are announced!

-Chris

Rolling Stone, you fail, Dave wants to be a preacher.

I thought about titling this post, “Today in ‘WTF?!’ land” because there are two things about this article from Rolling Stone that surprise me. First, it’s that Dave Ellefson (of Megadeth, duh?!) is studying to become an ordained minister in the Lutheran church. Now, Dave being a Christian is not so surprising to me because, well, whatever. Doesn’t change my opinion of his most excellent bass playing. And I do think it’s really cool that he’s following another path that he is passionate about. Nothing against that either. I’m actually kind of for it, because, come on, how cool would it be to say that your pastor is the bassist for Megadeth?! Of course, I neither live in Arizona nor am I a Lutheran, so this won’t happen. Still, I’d go to a church pastored by Dave just to say I did.

So, what about the second thing that makes this article strange? I’m honestly surprised that Rolling Stone is still considered a legitimate presence in the music industry. First, let’s face it; Rolling Stone knows about as much about Metal as I do Country. Which is to say an embarrassingly small amount if I cared. Rolling Stone does not care about Metal, and here’s how I know. Megadeth never wrote an album called Countdown to Destruction and I’m not sure what a “peolel” is, but I think the word the writer was searching for was “people.” I imagine some bespectacled intern hipster typing this up and thinking, “I just want to finish this so I can go fap over whatever Jack White is doing right now.” Or whatever bespectacled intern hipsters are faping over these days. Obviously I give as much of a rip about that scene as I do about Country. ANYWAY…

Dave Ellefson is going to be a Lutheran Minister some day and Rolling Stone makes the kind of mistakes that 16 year old bloggers do. I mean, this blog is no where near perfect and the grammatical structure of this post should be evidence to that, but come on guys! You are Rolling Stone! At least get the name of the album correct! Can I get an “Amen” from all my peolel?!

New Iron Maiden DVD/Blu-Ray on the way!

Iron Maiden are set to unleash “En Vivo!” to the world on March 27th. The Blu-ray/2 DVD set and album was filmed during the “Round the World in 66 days” portion of The Final Frontier World Tour in Santiago, Chile. The press release describing the filming states:

The concert was filmed digitally using 22 HD cameras and an octocam (a flying camera which captures aerial crowd scenes), recorded in both stereo and 5.1 audio and mixed by Maiden’s longstanding producer, Kevin “Caveman” Shirley, all of which serves to accentuate the incredible atmosphere of this compelling performance. Disc two of the DVD set is a bonus disc containing an 88-minute documentary, Behind The Beast.

If you haven’t seen Iron Maiden’s Flight 666 by now, you’re really missing out. It was an entertaining and very thorough look at how the band and crew functioned during the entire span of the Somewhere Back in Time World Tour. From off days with band members, to the work of the crew members and everything in between it was fun to watch, but the live footage was incredible. Dan and I got to see Iron Maiden on the first leg(?) of The Final Frontier World Tour and they were amazing. A lot was being said about their set list and how they weren’t playing this or that, but overall, it was an amazing show. Sure some of their “staples” were absent during the set, but it was still IRON F*CKIN’ MAIDEN! They played “Hallowed Be Thy Name” so I was happy! This new film looks to have an almost identical set list to what we saw, so it will be cool to see some different songs make it to Blu-Ray/DVD. If you’re one of those who want to hear all the “Classics” – go watch Flight 666!!!!

Lamb of God release “Ghost Walking” video.

Most likely to build hype for Resolution‘s release this Tuesday, Lamb of God have given us an animated video for their previously released song “Ghost Walking.” It’s animated, which is something I always appreciate, and there is actually a cohesive narrative to it. I’m not sure what it has to do with the lyrics of the song, but I think you could make a case for the video being “topical” in light of all the SOPA/PIPA stuff. Anyway… check it out below.

Resolution comes out Tuesday, January 24th via some label under the control of Sony Music Entertainment.

-Dan

Impending Doom want you to hate them.

No, really. Vocalist Brook Reeves even says so in the bands new ditty, “For the Wicked” which comes off their newbie, Baptized in Filth (March 13th, eOne). As for the song… well… can’t deny the boys haven’t lost their fire for apocalyptic Christian lyrics. Unfortunately, this song is simply more deathcore chugga, chugga that goes no where. That’s my impression at least. Take a listen below.

On a related note, I really wish they would go back to this style;

Or better yet, THIS!

A man can dream. A man, can, DREAM!

-Dan

Veil of Maya and Enfold Darkness; new tunes for you!

Veil of Maya have hyped up the release of their new single for the past two weeks and today it is upon us. And… it’s good. Not amazing or anything, but pretty good. I really dig the melodic (re)turn they did for the majority of the song. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but there’s a really great sense of melody inherent in the track. Unfortunately, the band throw in a totally unnecessary id style breakdown after a nice keyboard passage. I think I’d much prefer the song to end with a fade out of the keyboards and some guitars. Then again, it’s not my song. Check it out below and let me know your thoughts!

And, if that wasn’t extreme enough for you, Decibel magazine has debuted a new track from Enfold Darkness, titled “Lairs of the Ascended Masters.” If you need a little tech-black/death metal in your veins, this will do the trick. I remember listening to this band a few years ago, but it didn’t stick. I’m not going to claim this as the best thing since sliced bread, but the song is pretty killer and the solo is crazy good. So, yeah I’ll be checking their new one out. Go over to Decibel to give it a listen. Veil of Maya’s Eclipse comes out 2-28-12 and I don’t know when Enfold Darkness are releasing a new album or if this will be on it. Both bands are signed to Sumerian, though, which means I’m going to be forced to buy both albums. Natch.

-Dan

The Omega Experiment; prog-happiness!

Heavy Blog is Heavy alerted me to the upcoming full length release from this band called The Omega Experiment. Due to the cool artwork, I immediately took a listen to the album teaser, and then proceeded to download the free EP. As I’m listening to this, all I can say, “hot damn!” This is some really, really, REALLY great prog-metal. The coolest thing though? There’s a huge Devin Townsend influence in the music, which you don’t really hear a lot of in prog-metal. It’s always nice to get something different. Be warned though, this band will not live up to your expectations; they will destroy them! Enough of my pathetic bantering! Listen to the band below and get some free music here.

Go see Scale the Summit….Seriously.

Dan and I have become accustomed to driving at least an hour to just about every show we go to. The drive from Fort Collins to Denver is never really bad, but it’s basically AMAZING when bands come play in Fort Collins. Scale the Summit did just that last month opening for Protest the Hero. I was going to write a review of it, but spaced it until I saw the draft today…a month after. In short I will say it was awesome. Protest the Hero sounded great and it was awesome getting to see them play those songs live. Rody Walker’s vocals were awesome; much stronger than the first time I saw them. But back to Scale the Summit. It was awesome watching their set. With no vocals except between songs, the crowd was hard to read, but from our vantage point on the side balcony, they had the entire rooms attention by the end of their second song. Their sound is so tuned-in and they are such a solid band, it was definitely a treat to watch.
Luckily for everyone, the guys are heading out on their first headlining later this month, appropriately titled the “Their Strings are Voices” Tour. Check out the dates below!

Go support some awesome dudes in an awesome band!

iNuke my ears, and everyone else’s.

As the world moves ever closer to a fully digital music experience, I imagine we’ll see some absolutely crazy products come out to enhance, augment, and play with this new phase of music listening. Enter the iNuke Boom. Produced by Behringer, who have a reputation for producing some good quality music equipment (though I’ve never personally used anything by them), the 8 foot, 900 pound iPod dock is the sheer definition of, “why wouldn’t we do it if we can?!” Seriously, I have no idea why anyone, anywhere would need this thing. It’s pure excess. On the other hand, if you ever what to do this to someone, I guess you’ve got the tool. Just be willing to take out a small loan for it.

You can see the premiere of this beast below, and read a little more about it here.

Man, just imagine Origin or Nile coming out of something like this. Someone should get on making that happen and filming it, stat!
