The ranting of a couple of metal heads

Alice in Chains: The Live “Review”

Many times for Dan and I, concerts aren’t just a fun night out; they’re an adventure. Most shows require about an hour and a half drive and lately, this Colorado winter weather hasn’t made the trek any easier. But to see one of my all-time favorite bands for the first time, it was well worth the trip, even if I was flyin’ solo.
After avoiding three accidents, sliding past the entrance to the parking lot sideways onto the sidewalk, coming within two feet of getting hit by a sliding mini-van while walking, and getting yelled at by a homeless dude for wearing shorts, I made it to the venue.
After unnerving myself with a tasty Fat Tire, I watched openers Creature with the Atom Brain. They didn’t do much for me, yet I didn’t really mind their set. Their indie, alternative rock sound was fairly repetitive but before I knew it, they were done!
A large backdrop hid the stage and soon the heart from the cover of Black Gives Way to Blue appeared and began pulsing, leading into the intro of “All Secrets Known”. The silhouettes of the band could be seen interchanging against the cover before it finally dropped at the end of the first verse. From there on out it was over two hours of me with a huge effin’ grin on my face. The band played about half of BGWTB, while ripping through everything you would expect to hear. Some of the stand-outs were “Down in a Hole”, “Sickman”, of course “Rooster”, and HOLY CRAP did William DuVall’s vocal’s soar on “Rain When I Die” Overall, Alice in Chains far exceeded my lofty expectations and delivered a truly classy performance. Now if I can only see Maiden, I can truly die happy! Instead of a random youtube video, you can check out a pic of the set list I ended with!
